Why this site uses a narrow column, one accent color and plenty of white space.

Good typography is mostly restraint. A comfortable line length matters more than any effect.

Measure#

Aim for 60 to 75 characters per line. Shorter is fine on small screens.

One accent color is enough for links and focus states. Everything else stays neutral.
